Lotus Wisdom Yoga School is a Registered Yoga School (RYS) with Yoga Alliance. This designation of the teacher training program upholds the standards of Yoga Alliance in the education of yoga’s tradition, student/teacher trust, safety guidelines and ethical conduct. Students who complete training with this school are eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as Registered Yoga Teachers (RYTs).

Educational Categories:

Techniques, Training and Practice

Topics in this category include: asanas, pranayamas, kriyas, chanting, mantra, meditation and other traditional yoga techniques. These hours must be a mix between: 1) analytical training in how to teach and practice the techniques, and 2) guided practice of the techniques themselves. Both areas must receive substantial emphasis.

Teaching Methodology

Topics in this category are not limited to: Communication skills such as group dynamics, time management, and the establishment of priorities and boundaries; How to address the specific needs of individuals and special populations, to the degree possible in a group setting; Principles of demonstration, observation, assisting and correcting; Teaching styles; Qualities of a teacher; The student learning process; Business aspects of teaching yoga (including marketing and legal).

Anatomy & Physiology

This segment covers human physical anatomy and physiology (bodily systems, organs, etc.) pertinent to the practice of yoga and may also include energy centers such as chakras, nadis, and the koshas. The study of anatomy and physiology along with its application to yoga practice with discuss benefits, contraindications, healthy movement patterns, and best practices for teaching

Yoga Philosophy/LifeStyle Ethics

Topics in this category could include, but are not limited to: The study of yoga philosophies and traditional texts (such as the Yoga Sutras, Hatha Yoga Pradipika or Bhagavad Gita); Yoga lifestyle, such as the precept of non-violence (ahimsa), and the concepts of dharma and karma; Ethics for yoga teachers, such as those involving teacher – student relationships and community; Understanding the value of teaching yoga as a service and being of service to others (seva).

Practicum

Practice teaching as the lead instructor will include knowledge of assisting and the art of non-assisting students. Teacher trainees will practice teach, receive and give feedback to each other as well as partner with fellow trainees in the process of fine tuning their teaching skills. The final practicum will demonstrate the trainee’s knowledge of teaching by conducting part or an entire class to the public.
